Kola Nut (Cola spp), native to Africa, this caffeine containing fruit is used as a flavouring ingredient in beverages and is the origin of the term “Cola”. Kola nut contain 2-4% caffeine and theobromine as well as tannins, alkaloids, saponins and flavonoids. One popular saying about kola nut in Nigeria is: “He who brings kola brings life.”
